ILS: Attempting to View User List Gives "Access Denied"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to log on to an MCIS Internet Locator Server (ILS), you may receive an "Access Denied" error message, or be prompted for a username and password. If this occurs, you are unable to connect.

CAUSE

When too many users are connected or trying to connect to an ILS and the server is having a problem processing the requests, it either returns an "Access Denied" error message or prompts the user to enter a username and password.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, add additional system resources or shut down and restart the server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) Address Book Server version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
