IMS: SMTP Only Sends Received Header

Last reviewed: February 3, 1998
Article ID: Q160140
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Commercial Internet System, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

The mail is delivered to mailbox "user" with the following content:

   Received: from joesmith - 127.0.0.1 by acme.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC;
   Thu, 7 Nov 1996 16:41:40 -0800

However, SMTP should put together a mail message with an empty mail body. The mail message should include the regular From, To, Date, Return-Path, and Message-ID headers.

CAUSE

SMTP only puts the Received header in the mail message if the client places a period (.) immediately following the DATA command.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
