INS May GPF When It Receives an Article with a Large Header

SYMPTOMS

When the Internet News Server (INS) receives news feeds with large headers, a general protection fault (GPF) may occur. Although not specifically indicated, the estimated header size is 4 KB.

RESOLUTION

A code bug in Nntpsvc.dll causes this problem. To resolve this problem, upgrade the INS server(s) with Service Pack 1 for MCIS v1.0. This will update the Nntpsvc.dll file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System, version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
