NNTPSVC 501 Syntax Error When Wildcard (*) in List Newsgroup

SYMPTOMS

The NNTP server does not return a list of newsgroup when you use the asterisk wildcard specifier when issued from a telnet client. For example:

   list newsgroups comp.*

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 1.0.

MORE INFORMATION

Issuing the 'list newsgroups <group>.*' command now returns a list of all sub-groups and articles for the specified <group>.
