SMTP Does Not Delete .ltr File Once Message Delivered

SYMPTOMS

Files with .ltr and .rtr extensions accumulate in the Inetpub\Mailroot\Queue directory. SMTPSVC should delete all .ltr and .rtr files after the related messages are delivered. However, they are not deleted.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
