"File Cannot be Decompressed" with Helix Multimedia Cloaking

ID: Q128333

1.10 WINDOWS kbsetup kb3rdparty kbmm offwin

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Setup program for one of the applications listed above, you may receive the following error message when you insert Disk 2

The compressed file a:\<FILE2.CAB> cannot be decompressed and may be
   corrupted.

where <FILE2.CAB> is the cabinet file contained on Setup Disk 2.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you are using DMF Setup disks if Helix Multimedia Cloaking is running during the installation process.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, temporarily disable the Multimedia Cloaking option (this option is installed by Netroom) in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file by doing the following:

1. Make a backup copy of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

2. In the MS-DOS Editor or another text editor, open the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. 3. In the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, locate the line that appears similar to the following:

      C:\NETROOM\XLOAD.EXE -SD001 -M31488 C: \MMCLK\CACHECLK.EXE /K=3072
      /WK=3072 /H=2048 /WB=1

      -or-

      C:\NETROOM\XLOAD.EXE -SD001 -M47760 C: \MMCLK\MSCDEX.EXE
      /D:MSCD001 /L:D /M:15

4. Type "rem" (without the quotation marks) preceding the line and then restart you computer. The lines should appear similar to the following:

      REM C:\NETROOM\XLOAD.EXE -SD001 -M31488 C: \MMCLK\CACHECLK.EXE
      /K=3072 /WK=3072 /H=2048 /WB=1

      -or-

      REM C:\NETROOM\XLOAD.EXE -SD001 -M47760 C: \MMCLK\MSCDEX.EXE
      /D:MSCD001 /L:D /M:15

You should now be able to install the application correctly. After you have installed the application, you can remove the REM statements from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to re-enable Multimedia Cloaking. Multimedia Cloaking affects these applications during Setup only (it does not affect their performance).
