OFF97 Setup: Banyan Vines Patch Available

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Microsoft Office 97 Setup program, you may receive the following error message:

   Bdrintl.dll was unable to register itself in the system registry.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:

• You have performed an administrative installation (setup /a) of Microsoft Office 97 to a Banyan Vines server.

  -and-

• You are attempting to perform a Run From Server installation of Microsoft Office 97 from the Banyan Vines server to a workstation running Microsoft Windows NT, version 3.51 or 4.0.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has developed a software patch specifically designed to correct this problem. You can download the patch from Microsoft's World Wide Web site on the Internet. It is also available for download from the Microsoft Software Library:

1. Move the Banfix.exe file to your Windows\Desktop folder and double-click it to extract the files it contains.

2. After the files have been extracted, select the following files on your desktop, and right-click any one of them:

         Acmsetup.exe
         Mssetup.dll
         Setup.exe
   

   On the shortcut menu, click Copy.

3. In Windows Explorer, go to the folder on the Banyan Vines server that contains the administrative installation of Microsoft Office 97. (This is usually the MSOffice folder.) Then, on the Edit menu, click Paste. Click Yes To All when you are prompted to replace the existing files.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. The problem is corrected by a software patch that may be downloaded from the Microsoft web site on the Internet.

Contents of the Office 97 Setup Update Readme File

The updated Setup files included with the Banfix.exe file correct a problem that prevents you from installing Office 97 from a Banyan Vines Server to a Windows NT workstation. Without this patch, Setup fails and you receive the following error message:

   Bdrintl.dll was unable to register itself in the system registry.

1. Create an admin image of Office 97 on the Banyan Vines server using the steps outlined in the Netwrk8.txt file in the Office folder of the Office 97 compact disc.

2. Replace the following three files

         Acmsetup.exe
         Mssetup.dll
         Setup.exe
   

   with the files of the same name that are included in Banfix.exe. The files you should replace are located in the root of the Setup folder (named MSOffice by default) that was created during the admin image setup.

3. Continue the installation from the server as specified in the Netwrk8.txt file.
