OFF98: File Is Not Opened When Double-Clicked

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to open a file that was created in one of the programs that is listed at the beginning of this article by double-clicking the file in the Finder, the program is started but the file is not opened.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if either of the following conditions are true:

  • You have installed Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition on your computer but you have not yet run any of the Office programs.

    -or-

  • You have previously renamed, moved, or deleted any files that belong to Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition.

RESOLUTION

This problem should occur only once. If you quit the program and double- click the file again, or if you click Open on the File menu and open the file, the file is opened correctly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
