Last reviewed: February 2, 1998
Article ID: Q177831
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

If you click Microsoft Outlook Express on the Microsoft Office Manager (MOM) menu, Microsoft Internet Mail and News may be started instead.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • Microsoft Outlook Express, which is included in Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for the Macintosh, is not installed on your computer.

    -and-

  • Microsoft Internet Mail and News, which is included in Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 for the Macintosh, is installed on your computer.

Specifically, the problem occurs because Microsoft Outlook Express and Microsoft Internet Mail and News use the same creator type. Therefore, the Microsoft Office Manager cannot distinguish between the two programs and uses whichever program is available.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, install Microsoft Outlook Express.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of the Microsoft Office Manager that is included in Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition.

MORE INFORMATION

If you install Microsoft Outlook Express on your computer and this problem still occurs, follow these steps:

  1. On the Microsoft Office Manager menu, click Customize.

  2. In the list of menu items, click Microsoft Outlook Express. Then, click Edit (right of the list box).

  3. Click Change.

  4. Click Microsoft Outlook Express, and then click Add.

  5. Click OK.

After you do this, Microsoft Outlook Express should start correctly when you click the menu item for it on the Microsoft Office Manager menu.
