OL97: Error After Installing Crystal Reports Add-In

SYMPTOMS

After installing Crystal Reports for Microsoft Outlook 97, you may get the following error:

   The add-in 'C:\Program Files\Seagate Software\Crystal Reports
   for Office...' could not be installed or loaded. Unable to load
   'C:\Program Files\Seagate Software\Crystal Reports for Office...'.
   You may be out of memory, out of system resources, or missing
   a .dll file.

CAUSE

The path to the Crext32.dll file is incorrect in the Crext.ecf file.

RESOLUTION

Open the Crext.ecf file in a text editor and correct the path to the Crext32.dll file.

Correcting the Path to the Crext32.dll File

1. Click the Start button, point to Programs and click Windows Explorer.

2. In Windows Explorer navigate to Crext.ecf, right-click the file and

   click Open on the shortcut menu.

3. In the Open With list, click to select either NotePad or WordPad and

   then click OK.

4. Edit the path to point to the correct location of the

   Crext32.dll file. The default location is:

      Program Files\Seagate Software\Crystal Reports for Outlook 97

How to Obtain the Crystal Reports Programs

You can obtain Crystal Reports from the compact disc (CD) that is included in the printed edition of the Microsoft Office 97 Resource Kit, or directly from Seagate Software.

If You Have the Printed Edition of the Office 97 Resource Kit

The printed edition of the Microsoft Office 97 Resource Kit includes a CD that contains Crystal Reports for Microsoft Outlook 97. You can install Crystal Reports by following these steps:

1. Insert the Tools and Utilities CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive.

2. Using the Windows Explorer, go to the Outlook\Crystal folder on the CD.

3. To install the Crystal Reports Designer, double-click Crwsetup.exe, and

   follow the instructions on the screen.

   To install the Crystal Reports Analyzer, double-click Cvwsetup.exe, and
   follow the instructions on the screen.

Installing the Crystal Reports Add-in

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

2. On the Other tab, click Advanced Options.

3. In the Advanced Options dialog box, click Add-In Manager.

4. In the Add-Ins dialog box, click Install.

5. Click to select the Crext.ecf file and then click Open.

   The default location is:

      Program Files\Seagate Software\Crystal Reports for Outlook 97

6. Click OK three times.
