"ERROR! Incompatible File Format" Message in WordPerfect

Steps to Reproduce Problem

1. Save a worksheet from Excel 3.00 in the Excel 2.10 file format. Do this by choosing Save As from the File menu, selecting Options and choosing Excel 2.10 from the File Format list box.

2. Start WordPerfect 5.1.

3. Press CTRL+F5.

4. Choose 5 for Spreadsheet (you will see these options at the bottom of your screen).

5. Choose 2 for Create Link.

6. Choose 1 for Filename.

7. Type the full path to your file that was saved in the Excel 2.10 file format. Press ENTER.

8. "ERROR! Incompatible File Format" is displayed.

Workaround

Save the file in a Lotus file format. Do this by choosing Save As from the Excel 3.00 File menu and selecting Options. In the File Format list box select WK1. Choose OK two times.

With the worksheet saved in this format, create the link in WordPerfect by following the steps above. No error messages result. Be sure that you use the extension WK1 when you type the full path to the file.
