Applying Rotated Text to a Worksheet in Excel

SUMMARY

It is not possible to rotate text on a worksheet that has been entered into a cell. However, rotated text can be placed on a worksheet through the use of a text box.

Workaround

  1. Select the text box tool from the Toolbar.

  2. Create a text box on the worksheet.

  3. Type the desired text.

  4. Choose Text from the Format menu and select one of the rotated options. Choose OK.

  5. Move and size the text box as needed.

Note that you can also set the Borders and Fill to None using the Format Patterns command. This will display the underlying cells in the worksheet.
