SYMPTOMS

The SQL Server "Administrator's Companion" says on page 671:

When you install SQL Server, the setup program assigns 8 MB of memory to SQL Server if the computer has less than 32 MB of RAM, and 16 MB of memory if the computer has 32 MB or more of RAM.

Actually, a computer must have 64 MB or more or RAM before setup raises the default memory assigned to SQL Server to 16 MB.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server versions 6.0 and 6.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
