BUG: Long Comment in .SQC File May Cause AV in Nsqlprep.exe

SYMPTOMS

When the Microsoft Embedded SQL for C Pre-Compiler version 6.50.05 is used to process a .sqc file containing large comments, an access violation (AV) occurs.

WORKAROUND

In some cases, you may be able to remove lines of comments or the comment blocks before running the .sqc file through Microsoft Embedded SQL for C Pre-Compiler. This workaround may work with some files; however, it has been shown that this workaround only resolves the problem with specific files, and may fail to eliminate the AV with others.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Embedded SQL for C Pre-Compiler version 6.50.05. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression- tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
