The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server version 4.2b for OS/2
BUG# OS/2: 1826 (4.2b)

SYMPTOMS

When creating a table using a column defined as a datatype 'smalldatetime' and allowing nulls, the output of sp_help will show that the datatype of the defined column is 'datetime' and not 'smalldatetime'.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 4.2b for OS/2. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

Entries are made in syscolumns based on information in systypes. During the create table process, a row is inserted into syscolumns for every attribute in the newly created table. When the datatype 'smalldatetime' is used and it allows nulls, an incorrect value is entered into the usertype field of syscolumns. The value entered is 12 when it is expected that it should be 22. Executing sp_columns on the table will show the correct datatypes for all the columns in the table.
