BUG: SQL Server "Installation Guide" Documentation Error

Last reviewed: May 5, 1997
Article ID: Q93337

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server version 4.2 for OS/2
BUG# OS/2: 7654 (4.2)

SYMPTOMS

Page 35 of the "Installation Guide" incorrectly recommends setting MAXOPENS to USER CONNECTIONS + 25 in the LANMAN.INI file for LAN Manager based networks.

However, beginning with LAN Manager 2.1, MAXOPENS is dynamically tuned by the LAN Manager server. Therefore, users must not set this parameter in the LANMAN.INI file. Any attempt to add this parameter in the LANMAN.INI file will prevent the LAN Manager server from being started.

CAUSE

The MAXOPENS parameter can be set in the LANMAN.INI file in versions of LAN Manager earlier than 2.1. The LAN Manager 2.1 server performs autotuning of dynamic resources, and therefore does not require an entry for MAXOPENS, MAXCONNECTIONS, or MAXUSERS in the LANMAN.INI file.
