FIX: DocErr- Code for sp_movedevice Leaves 'allow updates' On

• Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

In the Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0 "Administrator's Companion," Part 8 Troubleshooting, Chapter 24 Additional Problem-Solving Techniques, in the topic Creating Supplemental Stored Procedures, then the section on "Moving a Device" (page 743):

1. The example code for sp_movedevice has a syntax error. If you run the code you get the following error messages :
   

   Msg 105, Level 15, State 1
   Unclosed quote before the character string '




2. Running the example code to create the stored procedure sp_movedevice will cause the server to have 'allow updates' set to 1.

CAUSE

1. The second line of the example (Print ") is missing closing quotation marks (").



2. The example code for creating the stored procedure sp_movedevice sets 'allow update' to 1 at the beginning and then at the end, instead of resetting it, sets it to 1 again.

WORKAROUND

1. Add the missing closing quotation mark, or comment that line of the code.



2. Run sp_configure "allow", 0 after you create the stored procedure.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0 documentation. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 3 for Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0. For more information, contact your primary support provider.
