OFF97: ActiveX Control Copy or Drag Between Applications Fails

SYMPTOMS

When you insert an ActiveX control (for example, a command button) into a Microsoft Office 97 program, the following problems occur when you either copy and paste that ActiveX control or move it using a drag-and-drop operation.

From PowerPoint 97 or Excel 97 to Word 97

From Word 97 to PowerPoint 97 or Excel 97

The code behind the ActiveX control does not copy with the control.

WORKAROUND

To work around the problem, use one of the following methods when copying and pasting the ActiveX control or moving it using a drag-and-drop operation.

From PowerPoint 97 or Excel 97 to Word 97

Recreate the ActiveX control from the Control Toolbox (On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Control Toolbox.) and either:

From Word 97 to PowerPoint 97 or Excel 97

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
