Excel Err Msg: Cannot Enter a Formula in Data Form

SUMMARY

When using a data form to enter information into a database in Excel for Windows, you may receive the error "Cannot Enter a Formula in Data Form" if you attempt to enter text that begins with a number (such as a phone number) when the Alternate Navigation Keys check box is selected.

For example, if you choose Form from the Data menu and enter

   (206)123-1234

into any field, and Alternate Navigation Keys is selected, the error message occurs.

To disable the Alternate Navigation Keys option:

  1. From the Options menu, choose Workspace.

  2. Clear the Alternate Navigation Keys check box and choose OK.
