Excel: #VALUE! Returned in Formulas with Range References

SUMMARY

When entering a formula that requires an argument that is a single value or reference and an array has been entered into that argument, the error #VALUE! will be displayed in the cell.

Formulas that calculate based on a range of cells in place of a single value or reference must be entered as array formulas. To enter a formula as an array formula, press COMMAND+ENTER instead of just RETURN or ENTER.

For example, the formula "=SUM(IF(A1:A10="Yes",1,0))" must be entered as an array formula because the first argument of the IF() function requires a conditional based on a single value or reference.
