Excel: Activating Hidden Document Toggles Window Zoom Off

ID: Q78875

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

If the ACTIVATE macro function is used to activate a hidden document while windows are maximized (zoomed), the zoom mode appears to be turned off, and background windows are drawn to their normal size. If you activate a visible window or the macro finishes, Microsoft Excel restores the active window to its full zoomed size.

Activating hidden documents may slow macro execution slightly because the resulting redraw of background windows requires extra time.

MORE INFORMATION

When you maximize a window, Microsoft Excel sizes the active document to cover the entire application workspace. Inactive documents in the background remain in normal size until you activate them.

A hidden window is invisible when you activate it; therefore, you can see the previously active document redraw to its normal size in the background. When you activate a visible document, this redraw of background windows is not visible.
