XL97: Run-Time Error Using ShowDependents Method

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you run a Visual Basic for Applications macro that uses the ShowDependents method, you may receive the following error message:

   Run-time error '1004':
   ShowDependents method of Range class failed

To work around this problem, use the ExecuteExcel4Macro method in your macro.

If your macro contains the following line of code to trace formula dependents

   Selection.ShowDependents

replace it with the following line of code:

   Application.ExecuteExcel4Macro "TRACER.DISPLAY(FALSE,TRUE)"

If your macro contains the following line of code to remove the arrows that trace formula dependents

   Selection.ShowDependents Remove:=True

replace it with the following line of code:

   Application.ExecuteExcel4Macro "TRACER.DISPLAY(FALSE,FALSE)"

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
