Excel: Calculate Message Persists with Iteration Selected

Summary:

If the Iteration option is selected on a worksheet that contains circular references in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh version 3.0, the Calculate message remains in the status bar even after the worksheet has been recalculated.

In Excel versions previous to 3.0, the Calculate message disappears when the worksheet is calculated.

More Information:

In Excel 3.0, the only way to remove the Calculate message from the Status Bar is to remove the circular references. It is possible to hide the status bar with the following procedure:

  1. From the Options menu, choose Workspace.

  2. Cancel the Status Bar selection.

In the absence of circular references, the Calculate message appears in the status bar when calculation is set to Manual and values in precedent cells are changed. The message indicates that the worksheet should be recalculated to ensure that values are accurate. In the case of a circular reference, the Calculate message is accurate because a circular reference can never be completely calculated.
