Excel: Cannot Insert Column with Hidden Column Selected

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, if you select a column that has a width of zero (a "hidden" column) and choose Insert from the Edit menu, a new column will not be inserted.

If you select cell or group of cells within a hidden column and choose Insert from the Edit menu, the default option in the Insert dialog box is to Shift Cells Down. If you select Shift Cells Right, the command is ignored and a new column is not inserted.

In a macro, the INSERT() command will be skipped if a hidden column is selected.

MORE INFORMATION

This does not occur when you select a hidden row or when you move cells down.
