Excel: Column Widths Rounded in Files Saved as SYLK

ID: Q48200

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel versions 1.5 and later for the Macintosh, a column can be formatted with a fractional column width. Prior versions only allowed whole numbers for column widths. Examples of fractional column widths are 12.71 and 8.14.

However, saving a file in the SYLK format, then closing and reopening the file, causes all fractional column widths to be rounded to the nearest whole number; for example, a width of 12.71 changes to 13, and a width of 8.14 changes to 8.
