SYMPTOMS

An application that uses the _floodfill() graphics library routine to fill an area of the display may hang if the region being filled has a very complex boundary.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this bug and will post new information in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

The sample code used to reproduce this problem used a data file too large to include here. The application used the data file to draw a map of the world, and the _floodfill() function was used in an attempt to fill the areas of the map covered by the ocean. The region of the map that _floodfill() had problems with involved the complex coastline of the area around Baffin Island in the Arctic Ocean.
