The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 4.0, 4.0a

SYMPTOMS

If you are using the HP DeskJet 500 version 2.0 or earlier printer with Microsoft Excel 4.0, the printer output may contain light-colored dotted vertical gridlines and no horizontal gridlines.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you use Control Panel to customize your Windows color scheme to display light text on a dark background. A dark colored window background (such as royal blue), and a light colored window text (such as cyan), will cause cell gridlines to be printed as dotted vertical lines; horizontal gridlines will not be visible.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with the UNIDRV.DLL printer driver version 3.1.89. This problem has been corrected in the Universal Printer Driver version 3.1.2. This problem has also been corrected in the HP DeskJet 500 version 2.14.

MORE INFORMATION

The Universal Printer Driver version 3.1.2 is contained in the HPDJET.EXE file. HPDJET.EXE is available for downloading through the Microsoft Download Service (MSDL). The number for the MSDL is (425) 936-6735. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The highest download speed available is 9600 bits per second (bps).
