Excel: Differences Between Printer Fonts and Screen Fonts

SUMMARY

In versions of Microsoft Excel earlier than 4.0, when the Printer Fonts check box is selected, Microsoft Excel only displays fonts built into or downloaded to the installed printer. For dot-matrix printers, screen fonts will also be shown. In versions 4.0 and 5.0, printer fonts are indicated in the Font box by a printer graphic next to the font name and TrueType fonts are indicated by the TrueType logo next to the font name, but you cannot restrict your choice to one or the other.

When Printer Fonts is not selected, only screen fonts are listed. Screen fonts are used for screen display only. If the worksheet is formatted in a screen font, Microsoft Excel displays that font and will use the printer font that most closely matches it for printed output.

If the worksheet is formatted in a printer font, Microsoft Excel displays the screen font that best matches it.
