SUMMARY

Immediately after saving a Microsoft Excel document in Text format, it still appears in Excel's Normal format. The document is not in a text format until it is closed and reopened.

Once converted to text format, all formulas and functions are lost and cannot be regained. By default, Excel will continue to save the document as Text until the file format is changed.

To change the format of an Excel versions 1.x document from Text to Normal format, do the following:

  1. From the File menu, choose Save As.

  2. Select Normal.

  3. Click the Save button.

To change the format of an Excel 2.20 document from Text to Normal format, do the following:

  1. From the File menu, choose Save As.

  2. Click the Options button.

  3. Select Normal.

  4. Click OK.

  5. Click Save.

Once the document is changed to Normal format, Normal is the default file format for that document.
