Excel: Edit and Copy Unavailable When Plot Area Selected

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 2.x, 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a, 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for OS/2, versions 2.2, 2.21, and 3.0

When you select the plot area of a Microsoft Excel chart, the Cut and Copy commands on the Edit menu are unavailable.

To copy a chart, follow the appropriate procedure below:

  • If you are using Microsoft Excel version 5.0, select the chart area with the mouse or the ARROW keys (when the chart area is selected the word "chart" will appear in the name box).
  • If you are using a version of Microsoft Excel earlier than 5.0, choose Select Chart from the Chart menu and choose Copy from the Edit menu.
