SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, a formula cannot be directly entered as unattached text in a chart. To enter a calculated value as unattached text in a chart, a link to a worksheet that contains the formula must be used, as follows:

  1. On the worksheet that the chart is dependent upon, enter the formula that is to appear in the chart.

  2. Activate the chart. If there is data showing in the formula bar, choose Select Chart from the Chart menu.

  3. Type "=" (without quotation marks) and select the worksheet that the chart is dependent upon from the Window menu.

  4. Click the cell that contains the formula that is to appear as unattached text in the chart and press RETURN.

The reference will come across as a link in the following format:

   =WorksheetName!CellRef
