SUMMARY

Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh version 3.0 allows a file to be opened from the Finder while a macro is being executed. This can cause problems if the currently running macro doesn't expect a new file to become active.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Excel for the Macintosh version 3.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.

For a solution to this problem, call Microsoft Product Support Services at (425) 635-7080.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Start executing a macro that accesses the active document by using references of the form "!A1" (that is, don't include the filename in the reference).

  2. While this macro is running, switch to the Finder and double-click an Excel document.

At this point, Excel switches to the foreground and the document opens. Problems can now arise because the macro is unaware that a different document is active. Changes to the active document will be made to the newly opened document rather than the intended document.
