ID: Q80234

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

Information that lies outside the defined database on a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet will not be saved to the DBF2, DBF3, or DBF4 file formats.

MORE INFORMATION

The DBF file formats are used for importing from and exporting to dBASE and other dBase compatible database applications. DBF2, DBF3, and DBF4 correspond to the file formats used in dBASE versions II, III, and IV, respectively. To save information to one of these file formats, a database must be defined on the spreadsheet. Any information entered into cells that lie outside the boundaries of the defined database will not be saved.

To set a database on a spreadsheet:

  1. Select the spreadsheet region containing the information to be saved.

  2. From the Data menu, choose Set Database.

Note: Excel versions 2.x support the DBF2 and DBF3 file formats only.
