The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 2.x, 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a, 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 2.x, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for OS/2, versions 2.2 and 3.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, the default settings for Iteration and for the Calculation options in the Options Calculation dialog box are determined by the first sheet you open (typically, this sheet is Sheet1, an unsaved worksheet). If the first sheet you open is Sheet1, the calculation options will be set to the default settings: the Automatic option is selected for Calculation and the Iteration check box is cleared. Any sheets opened in addition to Sheet1 will have these same calculation settings. However, if you close Sheet1 and then open a sheet with different settings (for example a sheet called MYSHEET.XLS), all sheets that you open subsequently will have the same settings as that sheet (for example, all files will have the same settings as MYSHEET.XLS).

MORE INFORMATION

To successfully open a sheet with saved calculation settings, you must first close all open sheets. Your sheet will then open with the saved settings.
