Messages logged using the LogEvent() resource API callback can be written in two places. First, events of level LOG_ERROR and LOG_SEVERE are sent to either the debugger or the console window depending on whether or not the cluster server is running as a service. Second, events of all levels are sent to the cluster log, if it is enabled.
When a resource monitor calls the Startup() routine of a resource DLL, it passes the address of the LogEvent() callback function. Resource DLLs can use the callback to send messages of varying importance to the resource monitor.
If the cluster log is enabled, all events are recorded in the log. This happens regardless of the log level specified in the LogEvent() call. "Information" and "warning" level messages are only recorded in the log.
Messages at the "error" or "severe" level can be reported in one of two places. If the cluster server runs as a service, the message is logged to the debugger, if it is present. If the server runs as a console application, the message is displayed in the console window.
You cannot configure the level of message that is sent to the debugger or console window in this release of Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS).
