ID: Q84078

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Excel will not complete a Lotus Help demo of opening a file ("/fr") or bringing up a new worksheet ("/wey") if you have a minimized document behind the active worksheet. Also, Lotus Help will not respond if it is started when the active document is minimized.

MORE INFORMATION

To enable Lotus Help, do the following:

  1. From the Help menu (the Workspace menu in 4.x), choose Lotus 1-2-3 Help.

  2. When you press the "/" (help key), a dialog box appears allowing you to select from Lotus 1-2-3 menus.

After you finish the selection, a demo of Microsoft Excel will show how to accomplish the same action in Microsoft Excel.

The Lotus Help Demo for "File/Retrieve" ("/fr") and "Worksheet/Erase/Yes" ("/wey") will close the active worksheet at the start of the demo. If the new active document is minimized, the demo will halt and return to "Ready" mode without completing the demo.

CAUSE

This problem occus because because SEND.KEYS() is being used and cannot work on a minimized document.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, make sure that all active documents are maximized when you use Lotus Help.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Excel listed above. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
