CAUSE ===== This behavior occurs if the [Options] section of the WRKGRP.INI file in the Windows\SYSTEM subdirectory contains a line that reads: Required=true RESOLUTION ========== To be able to modify the Workgroup box in the Network utility, rename or delete the WRKGRP.INI file. STATUS ====== This behavior is by design. MORE INFORMATION ================ The WRKGRP.INI file is created by a system administrator to restrict users to a predefined set of workgroup names. These predefined workgroup names are listed in the [Workgroups] section of the file. Settings in this file should appears as follows (note that the workgroup names are samples only): [Options] Required=true [Workgroups] Finance= Marketing= Note that if you omit the equal sign (=) from the end of a workgroup name, that workgroup name will not be available.
