Excel: Redefining a Name to Refer to a New Range of Cells

SUMMARY

To redefine a name to refer to a different range of cells, do one following:

Method 1

  1. Select the new range of cells.

  2. From the Formula menu, choose Define Name.

  3. Retype the name for this range of cells. Click OK.

Method 2

  1. From the Formula menu, choose Define Name.

  2. Select the name to be changed.

  3. In the Refers To box, type the new range of cells.

You can also use the Create Names command (on the Formula menu when Full Menus is selected). If a name is already defined, Excel presents a dialog box that asks if you want to replace the existing definition of the name. If you click "Yes," the name takes on the new definition.
