Excel: Replacing Sheet1 with a User-Defined Template

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, most file formats are automatically opened when they are placed in the XLSTART or ALTSTARTUP directory. Templates are the exception and are not automatically opened. They are only added to the list of new files that can be opened with the File New command. To have your template replace "Sheet1" as the default worksheet when the Microsoft Excel program is started, you can make a modification to your EXCEL.INI file.

To force the loading of a new copy of the template every time Microsoft Excel is loaded, place the following line in the [Microsoft Excel] section of the EXCEL.INI file: 

   open='<drive>:\<path>\<filename>'
The EXCEL.INI file is located in your Windows directory and can be modified with any text editor, such as Notepad.
