Excel: Selected Gallery Option Changes with Chart Formatting

Last reviewed: November 30, 1994
Article ID: Q79609
Summary:

When you choose one of the commands from the Gallery menu, several format options appear. The first format option is not always selected.

The selected format option depends on the formatting in the active chart. For example, if gap width on a column chart is set to zero, option 8 will be selected when you choose the Column command from the Gallery menu.

This feature is by design. Formatting and Gallery commands are reciprocal. In other words, changing one changes the other. By changing other settings such as overlap and gridlines, different options will be highlighted.
