Excel: Shortcut Menu Commands Create Unexpected Results

SUMMARY

Using the Shortcut menu in version 4.0 of Microsoft Excel may create unexpected results when the current selection extends across a horizontal or vertical split. In this case, using the standard menu commands avoids the problem.

MORE INFORMATION

The shortcut menu is accessed by clicking the right mouse button in Microsoft Excel for Windows, or by COMMAND+OPTION+clicking on the Macintosh. Choosing a command from the shortcut menu while the active selection extends across a split affects only the last clicked cell; however, the entire selection remains highlighted.

Note: This problem does not occur if split panes have been frozen.

Commands available from the spreadsheet shortcut menu include: Cut, Copy, Paste, Clear, Delete, Insert, Number, Alignment, Font, Border, and Patterns.
