The enclosed WW0505 disk contains the Microsoft PCL/HP LaserJet III driver version 30.3.86 for Windows 3.0. The driver supports the Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet III, IIID, IIIP, and IIIsi printers.

The PCL/HP version 30.3.86 driver supports the following cartridges:

INSTALLING THE PCL/HP 30.3.86 DRIVER

Use the instructions below to successfully install the new printer- driver file.

Removing Existing LaserJet III

Entries from the Installed Printers List

  NOTE: Any HP LaserJet III printer you have previously installed
  will use the new PCL/HP printer driver and HP Font Installer.
  Before installing the version 30.3.86 driver, use the Control
  Panel to remove any existing HP LaserJet III printer entries
  that are not needed.

Start Windows 3.0 if it is not already running.

From the Main Group in Program Manager, choose Control Panel.

From the Control Panel window, choose the Printers icon. The Printers dialog box appears.

Select the printer you want to remove.

Choose the Configure button.

Choose the Remove button.

Choose the Yes button when asked if you want to remove the printer.

Choose the OK button to exit the Printers dialog box and return to the Control Panel window. You must exit the dialog box to make the removal take effect.

You are now ready to install the new driver.

Installing the PCL/HP 30.3.86 Driver

Start Windows 3.0 if it is not already running.
From the Main Group in Program Manager, choose Control Panel.
From the Control Panel window, choose the Printers icon. The Printers dialog box appears.
From the Control Panel's Printers dialog box, choose the Add Printer button.
In the List of Printers box, select Unlisted Printer, which is the last entry in the box.
Choose the Install button.
Insert the WW0505 disk in your floppy disk drive.
In the Directories box, select the installation drive, which is the drive in which you have inserted the WW0505 disk.
In the Driver Files box, select HPPCL5A.DRV and choose the OK button.
Choose the New button if you are asked whether you want to use the current driver or install a new driver.
The entry "HP LaserJet III on None, Inactive" will appear in the Installed Printers box.
Choose the Configure button.
In the Ports box, select the correct printer port.
Choose the Setup button.
Make any necessary changes in the Setup dialog box to reflect your printer's configuration, such as making appropriate cartridge selections, resolution, orientation, and so on.
Choose the OK button to close the Setup dialog box. Choose the OK button again to close the Configure dialog box.
In the Status box, choose the Active option button.
Choose the OK button.

The PCL/HP LaserJet III 30.3.86 printer driver is now installed.

Until you exit and restart Windows 3.0, the printer setup function in the Control Panel is accessed from the installation disk. Therefore, after installing the new printer driver, make sure the WW0505 disk is inserted in the floppy drive if you choose Printer from the Control Panel before exiting Windows 3.0.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

On-screen Help files are included with this printer driver. For more information about the driver, select the appropriate printer in the Installed Printers box, choose the Configure button, and choose the Setup button. You can now access Help by choosing the Help button in the Setup dialog box.
The WordPerfect Bitmap Cartridge support has been removed from the 30.3.86 driver. The WordPerfect Cartridge can be added to the Font Installer by using either the AutoFont support disk packaged with the cartridge or by obtaining AutoFont support from the Personal Peripherals Assistance Line.
