"Help Author On" Displayed in Windows Help Title Bar

SYMPTOMS

When you are viewing a Windows Help file, the Help topic normally displayed in the title bar may be replaced with the following text:


   <###> (Help Author On) 


CAUSE

Help is running in the Help Author mode.


RESOLUTION

To return Help to the normal mode, use one of the following methods:

Method 1

Disable the Help Author mode from within the Help compiler or other program that you used to enable Help Author mode.

Method 2

Manually change the Help Author mode. To do so, use the following steps.

Windows 95:
  1. Use any text editor (such as Notepad) to open the Win.ini file.


  2. In the [Windows Help] section, change the line that reads
    
          Help Author=1 
    to read:
    
          Help Author=0 


  3. Save and then close the Win.ini file.


  4. Restart Windows 95.


Windows NT 4.0:

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.

Use Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) to change the Help Author value from 1 to 0 in the following registry key:

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Help
