Excel: Tip for Setting Print Titles

SUMMARY

If problems arise in Microsoft Excel when you set print titles or if the error message "Select entire rows and/or columns before choosing Options Set Print Titles" (Excel version 3.00) or "Print Title Is Invalid" (Excel version 2.20 or earlier) keeps appearing on the screen, you can select the correct area using the Goto command on the Formula menu.

If the Goto command is given a range as its input, it will select the entire range. This can be useful when setting print titles that consist of both rows and columns.

For example, if column A and rows 1 and 2 contain the desired print titles, do the following:

  1. From the Formula menu, choose Goto.

  2. Type "A:A,1:2" (without quotation marks) in the Reference box. This will select all of column A and all of rows 1 and 2.

  3. From the Options menu, choose Set Print Titles.
