SYMPTOMS

When you are using an ATI Pro Turbo series, Mach8, Mach32, or Mach64 graphics adapter and Windows is installed with the default 640 x 480 video resolution, after you change the video resolution using the Change Display Type dialog box, Windows still starts up with 640 x 480 resolution. (To locate the Change Display Type dialog box, click Display in Control Panel, click the Settings tab, and then click the Change Display Type button.)

CAUSE

If Windows detects that the video card is unable to display in the resolution selected, Windows defaults to 640 x 480 resolution. Windows does this as a safety measure to prevent the system from starting up with an unreadable image on the display.

RESOLUTION

To use 800 x 600 or an even higher-resolution video mode with the ATI Mach8, Mach32, or Mach64 video card, you must first configure the ATI card for the correct monitor type. This is done using the INSTALL.EXE program found on the disks provided with the ATI video adapters.

MORE INFORMATION

ATI Mach graphics adapters are manufactured by ATI, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding these products' performance or reliability.
