Excel: Unexpected Field Highlighted in Custom Data Form

SUMMARY

When the New button is clicked in a custom data form in Microsoft Excel version 2.20, the field that is highlighted is the first field in the database, not necessarily the first field in the Data_Form definition table.

For example, if a database is defined with fields in the following order

Date, Name, Address, City, and State

and the same fields are defined in the custom data form (definition table) as follows

Name, Address, City, State, and Date

when New is clicked, the field that is highlighted initially will be the first field in the database and not necessarily the first field in the data form. Starting from that field, Excel tabs the fields in the order determined by the definition table. In this case, it would tab from Date to Name, Address, City, and State, when New is chosen in the data form.

For more information on custom data forms, see pages 163-166 in the "Microsoft Excel Reference" manual for version 2.20.
