SUMMARY

Microsoft Excel does not automatically provide space on the right side of a chart for unattached text. Adding a legend will provide some space on the right side of the chart. The following workaround will provide space for the unattached text without having a legend appear on the chart.

  1. From the Chart menu, choose Add Legend.

  2. Type a space as unattached text.

  3. Select the space and choose Patterns from the Format menu.

  4. Select the colors in the Foreground and Background options that match the color of the chart background and click OK.

  5. Increase the size of the unattached text box to that of the legend by dragging the sizing handles.

  6. Position the box over the legend.

  7. Type the desired unattached text.

  8. Position the text at the desired spot on the right side of the chart.
