Excel: Workspace Command Ignored When Chosen

When you choose Workspace from the Options menu, and the Workspace dialog box does not appear, it is possible that the Excel Settings file has been corrupted. If this file has been corrupted, other commands may be affected as well.

To correct this problem and to determine if a corrupt Excel Settings file is producing it, do the following:

  1. Quit Microsoft Excel.


  2. Remove Microsoft Excel Settings from the System Folder (located in the Preferences folder in System 7).


  3. Restart Microsoft Excel.


If Microsoft Excel does not find its preferences file in the System folder on when you start it, it will create a new copy of Excel Settings that contains default information. If the Workspace command now brings up the appropriate dialog box, the original Excel Settings file was probably corrupted.

Excel Settings stores workspace preferences information. Some of these settings can be controlled through the Workspace dialog box. If the Excel Settings file has become corrupted, choosing Workspace on the Options menu may not bring up the Workspace dialog box.

NOTE: Excel Settings contains information other than Workspace preferences (such as path information to Solver). It is possible that certain files should be reinstalled to return the Excel Settings file to its original state.
