Excel: Wrap Text Does Not Work on Protected Document

Last reviewed: November 30, 1994

The information in this article applies to
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows versions 3.0, 4.0
  • Microsoft Excel for OS/2 version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

When a document is protected in Microsoft Excel, row heights and column widths cannot be adjusted. Thus, wrapped text will not display if the row height must be increased to accommodate all of the text in your cell entry.

WORKAROUND

Before protecting your document, enter the text in the cell(s). The worksheet will wrap the text and hold the wrap after it's protected.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Excel versions listed above. This problem is corrected in Microsoft Excel for Windows version 5.0.
