Exporting Data from Q+E for a Print Merge in Word for Windows

SUMMARY

To use data from a database opened or created in Q+E, the data must be saved as a character-separated text file. The following steps demonstrate saving the records in the sample file ADDR.DBF, which is included in the Q+E package, as a comma-separated file :

  1. Start Q+E.

  2. Open ADDR.DBF.

  3. From the File menu, choose Save As.

  4. Select TextFile in the Destination List box.

  5. Choose Options.

  6. Select ANSI in the File Character Set box.

  7. Verify that Character Delimited Values is selected in the File Format box.

  8. Verify that there is a single comma is in the Character Delimiter box.

  9. Check the First Line Contains Field Headings box.

  10. Choose OK.

  11. Enter the desired the filename.

  12. Choose OK.

To verify that the file was saved correctly, open it in a text editor such as Notepad. The file should only contain text separated by commas and the first line should contain the field headings.
